Weather
Summer weather is here today, September 3, we just need several more weeks of it to mature crops. Frost advisories were out this past Monday and Tuesday. Only trace amounts of frost were observed with no significant crop damage. Will crops mature before frost is the question on everyone’s mind?
Crop report
Corn is variable, most is in milk stage. Crop looks good but way behind normal in maturity. No significant silage harvest yet.
Soybeans are setting and filling pods. Most fields at R4.
Dry beans are turning in many fields but some are still very green. Peak flight for western bean cutworm has passed; we are only catching a moth or two a week in traps.
Most dairy farms are cutting their third cutting this week, but you can find second, third, and fourth cutting going on at the same time in much of the area. Many are indicating the supply of forages is a bit tight.
